ITD's executive director is responsible for finding appropriate grant advertisements to respond to, developing or supporting the development of excellent proposals, directing or supporting programs that stimulate, motivate and benefit participants and the communities they serve, communicating well with sponsors, setting organizational policy and keeping the organization viable, and helping create an atmosphere of goodwill and an environment for learning.

Executive Director: Mark Protti

Mark brings more than two decades of international education and training experience to his position as executive director at ITD. Prior to joining ITD, Mark served as director of training at Heifer International, where he oversaw training in more than 30 countries around the world.  In addition, he has worked in the capacity of project director, trainer, education advisor, facilitator or evaluator for several international development organizations, including USAID, the Organization of American States and the United Nations.  Mark is fluent in Spanish and has worked in several Latin American countries including serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica.  Mark holds a doctorate in International Education from the University of Massachusetts and a master's degree in Natural Resources Management from SUNY Syracuse.





Media and Program Director: Abril Navarro

Abril holds a Master's Degrees in Linguistics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Abril has been directing the SUSI Institutes for Student Leaders from the Western Hemisphere, and oversees the implementation of ITD's programs. In addition to coordinating activities, she also presents to most groups a session focusing on linguistic discrimination and its different forms in diverse cultural environments. Abril has been working for ITD since 2007, and in addition to programmatic duties, she oversees ITD's virtual component, and its e-learning Moodle platform. Abril's research focuses on linguistic attitudes and assessment, including how social justice plays a role for students and their academic success. 



 


Financial Director: Edgardo Rothkegel

Edgardo grew up in Guatemala and the US, and is a native Spanish speaker. At ITD he is responsible for day-to-day accounting activities, including account management.  He also maintains our computer systems and vans.  Since 1988 Edgardo has also served as Cultural and Administrative Coordinator on our programs.   In these capacities, he arranges ground transportation, distributes allowances, oversees program budgets, and escorts on cultural outings.  Edgardo leads cultural and programmatic excursions to cities in the U.S. and abroad.  He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts.  

 



Operations and Facilities Manager: Kaye Sherwood

Kaye has worked for ITD since 1997 and has occupied the position of Office Manager and secretarial support for the majority of that time. She is responsible for overseeing ITS's office general operations, as well as, assisting with visa and passport applications, including issuing the proper documentation for the participants to enter the country.  She also arranges participants' international and domestic air fare, hotels, and health coverage and care. She recently has taken on the responsibility of managing the ITD house - ITD's gorgeous Victorian where the ITD groups stay, maintaining and managing various construction projects along the way.  Kaye speaks Spanishfluently and enjoys early morning hikes with her PWD Rock.

   

 


Business Development Coordinator: Alejandro Martinez Alfaro

Alejandro is one of ITD's newer staff members. He is originally from El Salvador, where he worked as Program Coordinator for ITD's American Youth Leadership Program in 2015. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Integrated Marketing Communications and he's specialized in Business Planning. Alejandro developed a business program for ITD in collaboration with the Isenberg School of Management. He is a skilled videographer and photographer, and is responsible for overseeing ITD's social media presence, and its website development and maintenance. 






Office Manager: Yanara Barriga

Yanara has been working for ITD since the beginning of 2017. She studies Public Health and Biostatistics at the University of Massachusetts with the purpose to work with community development projects in relation to health. She is from Ecuador and lived in Honduras for a few years. Yanara has previously assisted ITD as a program assistant with transportation logistics, the well-being of the participants, and the preparation and maintenance of electronic equipment. Most recently, Yanara joined the ITD team as the Office Manager, and she is responsible for overseeing the organization and scheduling of ITD's overall events and programs.
